I'm a third generation Texan. My mother and father were the children of hardscrabble cotton farmers in West Texas. Dad left home at 17 to seek his fortune. After a stint as a shipyard welder in Houston he joined the Air Force. After WWII he became a successful printing salesman in Fort Worth Texas, where I grew up. Dad taught me integrity, personal responsibility, self-reliance and thrift.
